Hank Williams Jr. III (Hank III) 2007_07_20 Tempe, AZ

This was an unbelievably fun concert! It was at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, and I’ve never felt more energy in that place. It was packed with bikers/hicks/punks/metalheads/old people/young people/handicapped people/etc, etc… The vibe is what made it truly unique, and a little scary. Everyone was drunk so it felt like something bad could happen at any moment. It reminded me of the scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when they’re trying to get their press credentials and the bar patrons suddenly turn into reptiles…”We’re right in the middle of a fucking reptile zoo! And somebody’s giving booze to these goddamn things!” The intensity ramped up as the show went on too! Hank & Co. led the crowd through 20 songs off of all three albums (a fourth was recently released called Damn Right – Rebel Proud). But that was just half the concert.

Hank is a metalhead as much as he is country, so he works some (20 more!) harder edged songs into his set with two other bands, Hellbilly and Assjack. I was more than happy with the country part of the show, and that’s all I’m including in this post. But if you’re interested in the entire 40 song concert, and/or want the tracks in FLAC format, they are hosted at the Internet Archive
