When Mayhem comes to town, you go. It’s as simple as that. You go for the music, for the stage performance, for the fact you never know how long it will be until you get to see them play again, if ever! They’re just unstable like that. *Edit: Blackenedfest has officially gone off the rails. All support bands have called it quits. Here’s the story from one person’s perspective. -June 11, 2009*

I saw them in Tucson back in 2000, so nearly a decade later attendance was mandatory at The Clubhouse in Tempe. Seeing Mayhem live is a lot like Enslaved, but even more historic feeling. I mean when you talk about the roots of Norwegian Black Metal there are a few bands that will always, always, always be mentioned. Mayhem is at the top of that short list. Euronymous is gone, Blasphemer is gone, Dead is gone, Maniac is gone, as well as half dozen other ex-members, and it doesn’t really matter. The Mayhem spirit definitely lives on!

Attila has a great stage presence and a totally unique vocal technique. It was great to hear some of the Grand Declaration of War, Wolf’s Lair Abyss, and other Maniac era songs done in a new way.
